A Scallop thumb book holder, handmade by Gilbert in his home shop in Arizona from padauk. Its scalloped top has three soft rounded lobes, which leaves a little more wood above the thumb hole and feels good in the hand.
Slip your thumb through the hole and rest it in the fold of your book. The wings press the pages down on each side, so you can read with one hand and keep the other free for coffee, the dog, or turning the page. Each piece is cut and hand-sanded one at a time, so the grain on yours is one of a kind.
